Pennsylvania State Capitol Building Interior Dome Glass Paperweight

10.00

This elegant glass paperweight features a full interior view of the Pennsylvania State Capitol Building Dome.  This 3 3/4 oval paperweight is packaged in a gift box with the following inscription on the back of the box:

The interior of the Pennsylvania Capitol Building dome is a masterpiece of artistic achievement.  The Rotunda is made of Carrara marble and proceeds upward through five floors until it meets the ornamental plaster cornices topping the massive support piers.  Above this begins the famous quote by William Penn, laid out in mosaic tiles, "There may be room there for such a holy experiment.  For the nations want a precedent.  And my God will make it the seed of the nation.  That an example may be set up to the nations.  That we may do the thing that is truly wise and just." Murals and circular rondels by Edwin Austin Abbey appear above the Penn quote, depicting allegorical figures and Pennsylvania industries.  The walls and windows of the drum of the dome rise skyward allowing light to enter the space.  Above this red and blue paint the ceiling is accentuated by 24-karat gold leaf as the dome curves toward the lantern almost 250 feet above the Rotunda floor.
